This is to certify, that Mr John Pope was an articled Pupil with me from the age of 16 to 21, at the coming of age, and that his attention and good conduct during that time, were such as to merit my approbation. Also, that he has subsequently been employed as assistant Engineer on the works of the London and Dover Railway, South Eastern Railway, &c. and that I esteem him fully competent to Surveying, setting out, and conducting Works in Civil Engineering in General, and of Harbour and Road Surveying, and Railway Engineering in particular.
And further, that he is a good draughtsman; well acquainted with office work, and perfectly steady and trustworthy in all matters of business.
